Ben King pulled off an amazing win at the USA Cycling Professional Road Race Championship on Sunday, becoming the first person under the age of 23 to win the event, all while holding off some of U.S. cycling's top pros, reports.
King (North Garden, Va./Trek-Livestrong), broke away to an early lead in the 115-mile race, at one point holding a 15-minute lead. Reigning road race national champion George Hincapie (Greenville, S.C./BMC) and former Tour de France stage winner Levi Leipheimer (Santa Rosa, Calif./RadioShack) pulled within three minutes, but King, the the current USA Cycling U23 Road Race National Champion, held on for the win.
“L ‘Avenir (Tour of the Future) had everything to do with it,” explained King. “I was riding the front every single day. That's what I think I'm good at — doing the dirty work.”
