An avalanche struck Broad Peak on July 20 in the Karakorum Range of northeastern Pakistan, .

The avalanche hit Camp 1, but there are conflicting reports of the casualties on the world’s 12th highest mountain.  the avalanche left one climber missing and two others seriously injured.

But  the avalanche took seven climbers with it, including a Pakistani porter who is still missing.

“The climber that is missing, presumed dead, is a Pakistani high-altitude porter who was assisting another team at our base camp,” Burke wrote in her blog. “He made an impression on everyone at our camp.”

*UPDATE: July 23 10:45 MDT: Qamber Jangjupa, the Pakinstani high-altitude porter, was confirmed as dead. Japanese climber Sumiyo Tsuzuki was injured and helicoptered off the mountain, . Three teams, including Al Hancock's, Iván Vallejo's, and Ferran Latorre's, plan to push for the summit soon—some by the end of the week.
