Exercise can help prevent colds during the winter, according to the . Studies show that a minimum of 45 minutes of exercise at moderate intensity for most days of the week can lead to a 25-to-50 percent decrease in illness.

“This reduction in illness far exceeds anything a drug or pill can offer,” said David C. Nieman of the ACSM. “All is takes is a pair of walking shoes to help prevent becoming one of the thousands predicted to suffer from the common cold this winter.”
