The Colorado Division of Wildlife is experimenting with electric mats to deter bears from outdoor freezers and dumpsters, the reports. The mat emits 600 volts, but does little harm to the animal because of its low amp. It doesn't present a danger to humans, unless they're barefoot.

“If I was barefoot or peed on it, I'd get shocked,” said Bill Dinsmoor, owner of a restaurant in Aspen who's used the mat. “It's not dangerous equipment.”
