A scientist at the University of Manchester has cracked the “The Plato Code” — the long disputed secret messages hidden in the great philosopher's writings, reports.
Decoding a regular pattern of symbols from Pythagoras, an ancient astronomer who argued that planets and stars made music inaudible to the human ear, Dr. Jay Kennedy has discovered that Plato intended to give his books musical structure.
Dr. Kennedy spent five years studying Plato's writing and discovered The Republic, Plato's most famous work contained words related to music after each twelfth of the text. This regular pattern coincides with the twelve notes of the Greek musical scale.
In antiquity, many of Plato's followers said the books contained hidden layers of meaning and secret codes, but this idea has been mainly rejected by modern scholars.
“I have shown rigorously that the books do contain codes and symbols and that unraveling them reveals the hidden philosophy of Plato,” Dr. Kennedy said.”This is a true discovery, not simply reinterpretation.”
