lulls of summer.

Whatever your recreational bend, the 12-by-21-mile island is full of options. Most visitors stay on Grand Anse Beach, a 2-mile stretch of white sand just south of St. George’s. If you like hyperactive vacations where you can dive, windsurf, and sail from the same outfit, consider the Grenada Renaissance Resort (800-468-3571).

If low-key is more your style, try the Morne Fendue Plantation House (809-442-9330) off the beach in St. Patrick’s. Here you’ll find the best rum punch in the Caribbean. When you tire of beach-bumming, lace up your hiking boots for a trek in the 3,800-acre Grand Etang National Park. Choose from a hike up 2,300-foot Mount Qua Qua or a four-hour trek to waterfalls on the
Seven Sisters Trail. Henry’s Safari Tours (809-444-5313) and the Forestry Department (809-440-2934) are good resources for more rugged, out-of-the-way hikes.

Of course, don’t forget the diving. Molinere Reef, off the west coast, offers tropicals and moray eels, as well as an eerie wreck in 80 feet of water. Dive Grenada (809-444-1092) and Scuba World (809-444-4371) offer trips to these sites.
