Cross-country skiing centers in Vermont

By Amy Marr

Question: Since leaving northern climes 18 years ago, I’ve not had the chance to cross-country ski. I’d like to relearn. Any suggestions? I’m looking for a place in the northeast. Thanks!

ϳԹ Adviser: Vermont’s Craftsbury Outdoor Center (800-729-7751) is the perfect place for you to regain your cross-country ski legs. Boasting over 60 miles of trails, and some of the best snow conditions in the northeast, Craftsbury’s Nordic Center offers first-rate instruction and high-quality rentals. You can explore the
trails on your own, take lessons, or sign up for one of the center’s Ski Technique Camps, an intensive weekend session for skiers of all ages and abilities.

Just outside Stowe are two more good options. The Bolton Valley Ski Touring Center (802-434-2131, ext. 194) has 20 miles of groomed trails, and an additional 46 miles of well-marked backcountry terrain, and The Trapp Family Ski Touring Center (802-253-7311) is equally as vast. Both centers offer instruction, rentals, and lodging. Like Craftsbury Common, Stowe is a
quintessential New England town — you might never go back to Florida.
