Facts about the world’s highest peaks
Question: I recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and would love to improve my cocktail-party conversations by knowing how many mountains are higher than Kili. Is there a comprehensive list of all the highest peaks on Earth?

Pete High

ϳԹ Adviser: Though Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, which qualifies it as one of the Seven Summits, I’m afraid it’s pretty far down the list when it comes to the world’s highest mountains.

According to my count, it ranks 129th in the world in terms of height, behind two peaks in North America (McKinley and Logan), 50 peaks in South America, and 76 peaks in Asia.

I hate to bore you with the entire list of peaks, but if you’re curious, you can find their names and heights in the most recent World Almanac, available for about $10 at any bookstore.
