Develop new technical and aesthetic skills during this exciting workshop week to expand and strengthen your outdoor and travel photography. Designed for advanced amateur and professional photographers, Paulo leads participants through a carefully designed blend of lectures, demonstrations, field trips, assignments, and critiques.
To kick off the week, Paolo reviews his career, covering topics such as workflow techniques and shooting formats, his choice of camera gear, and the significance of his passion for fly-fishing. Paolo also touches upon the business side of photography, including his portfolio, web site, and promotion. Then Paolo reviews each participants photographs and their goals for the week ahead.
Daily assignments challenge and motivate participants to master new techniques and aesthetic approaches to their imagemakinghow to evolve from “pretty pictures” to heartfelt images. Lens choice, framing, and shooting angles are combined with simple, yet effective, location lighting techniques using small strobes, reflectors, scrims, open shade, and filters. Paolo demonstrates his straightforward techniques for breaking the ice with strangers and choosing the best shots in potentially awkward situations. Participants practice these strategies on each other and models, as well as strangers encountered around Santa Fe.

The stunning landscape and colorful culture of northern New Mexico provide a rich environment to practice new skills and master techniques on group field trips and individual assignments. Paolo meets individually with each participant during the course of the week. Participants depart with strengthened technical, aesthetic, and editorial skills to produce outstanding outdoor and travel images.
PAOLO MARCHESI is recognized for bringing a fine-art approach to the commercial realm, and his work has been published and exhibited internationally and received awards in the commercial, editorial and fine art worlds. Born in Torino, Italy, he studied design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan and began his career as an art director. It wasn’t long before he discovered that photography was his true passion. In 1991, Marchesi moved to the U.S. and enrolled in the Brooks Institute, graduating with a BA in commercial photography. Although his photographic career began in San Francisco, he moved to Montana in 1999 to focus his efforts on nature and travel photography. Among the publications he shoots for are ϳԹ, Ski, Climbing Magazine, Field & Stream, and Outdoor Life. Advertising clients include, Patagonia, Black Diamond, Motorola and Apple. Paolos web site is .

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Participants should have a working knowledge of manual mode on their digital SLR camera and digital workflow (downloading images from camera, organizing files on laptop, and using image viewing software to edit and select images).

A portfolio submission of twenty images is required to maintain a consistent level of photographic proficiency in this workshop.
