Freediver won the U.S. National Spearfishing Championship in 2008. She's so comfortable in the ocean that she takes cat naps on the surface before she dives. I thought she was joking, but after floating in the ocean for six hours, I must admit I felt a little sleepy, too.

Watching Werner pursue tuna is an amazing education in blue water hunting. She holds her breath for about two minutes per dive and dives between 80 and 120 feet, which is standard for someone with her ability. Cameron Kirkconnell (out of frame) from the team was her partner the day I took this photograph. Trust me, you don't want to be a big fish if these two are on the hunt.
