, the southern Colorado resort founded by Discovery Channel impresario John Hendricks, is a haven for adventurers who like their accommodations luxurious. Afterward, eat wild boar sausage at the Entrada Restaurant or relax in a private hot tub in one of 20 rooms at the new Kayenta Lodge, which opened in May and includes a wood-floored yoga studio and in-room fireplaces. This being a project of the man who brought you Dirty Jobs, visitors also have the chance to preview one of Discovery’s new series in the resort’s 56-seat HD theater. Doubles from $399. —Adam Roy
RED HORSE CABIN
Built in 1890, the was once a post office and a decrepit storage shed, but you’d never know that now. After a renovation, the wood-and-stone cabin reopened in January as part of the Bright Angel Lodge. Its salient feature is the view—it’s mere steps from the Grand Canyon’s South Rim—but the interior is comfortable, too, with a historic brick fireplace and hardwood floors. In the morning, tackle a classic hike nearby, like the six-mile round-trip to Dripping Springs, which is steep enough to weed out the riffraff. Doubles, $340. —Kate Siber
