I took this image on a fishing trip near my hometown of Tofino, British Columbia. The journey started with a float plane ride to a remote lake where we were dropped off, unloaded camping gear, and inflated our rafts. We spent the next two or three days drifting the river toward the ocean, where we eventually met the float plane that flew us home.
In this photograph, my friend Blake is fewer than 100 yards from the lake—where the river begins—fighting a winter-run steelhead. We were lucky this afternoon and caught three out of this pool before we hiked back to the lake to camp for the night.
