A bonefishing honeymoon in blue waters
Question: Until our honeymoon plans are inked, I don’t believe my future fiancée will give a thought to engagement. It is my wish to accommodate us both with a warm tropical climate combined with excellent bonefishing opportunities. Amenities are of some importance so Christmas Island is not an option. Cost is always a consideration as
well.

Set off on a bonefishing in the
waters of the Florida Keys

ϳԹ Adviser: The grand daddy of all fishing resorts is the Florida Keys’ Cheeca Lodge, with a list of regulars that included Ernest Hemingway and a few former presidents. Though they’ve tried to polish their image with PC environmental awareness camps for kids, the lodge remains what is always has been — sportfisherman central.
Just off Route 1 (you could drive there), the plantation-style lodge sits on 1,500 feet of beach front with a small golf course out back. There’s six lighted tennis courts, nature trails, two swimming pools, and bikes, snorkels, and scuba gear for rent. For bonefishing, you’ll have to arrange a charter with a nearby marina. Doubles prices range from $250 to $1,000 per night.
Call 800-327-2888 for details.

The Exuma Cays, a series of 365 cays rising from the ocean just 35 miles southeast of Nassau, is a bonefishing haven. If you really want to bond with your future wife, you should sign both of you up for a week-long school with veteran flats master Bob Hyde. The class includes seven nights lodging and all meals at the harborside Peace and Plenty Beach Inn or the
appropriately named Bonefish Lodge (approximately $2,250 per person; 809-345-5555). If your goal is to stay married, however, you may also consider focusing less on fishing and more on your wife. The perfect way to do this is to set up a romantic sea kayaking trip in the Exumas and then sneak in a day or two with a private bonefishing charter. For sea kayaking in the Exuma
Cays Ibis Tours at 800-525-9411.
