Best Tree Skiing

Ski Homewood, California

For really memorable tree skiing, it helps to get in touch with your inner pooch. “You have to act like a bloodhound to find the perfect mix of snow, trees, and slope,” says former U.S. Ski Team member Jimbo Morgan. “You really have to sniff out the epic glades.” Morgan’s choice–as well as that of many in-the-know powder-doggies–is the Quail Face at Ski Homewood, on Lake
Tahoe’s western shore. Thanks to the drawing power of neighboring Squaw Valley, liftlines are nonexistent and fresh snow under the trees can remain trackless for days. “Squaw grabs all the tourists,” says Morgan. “Which leaves Homewood for those of us with real aspen, pine, and fir fetishes.”
