OFF-ROAD WARRIOR
How comfortable is the Doubletrack as a backpack? With a 25-pound load jammed in the single, 1,950-cubic-inch main compartment, it felt so comfortable I wanted to ditch my flight and keep on walking. Why? The airy back panel and fully adjustable (and hide-away) suspension system—complete with load-lifters and an ergonomic hipbelt—feel more like a bona fide backpack than a hybrid roller. The detachable, 800-cube daypack is equally trailworthy, thanks to a hydration sleeve/tube port and an array of side pockets and organizing sleeves. Which is not to say it doesn’t roll well: The snazzy red wheels, robust skid plate, and heavy-duty nylon fabric can easily handle wheeling through town. thenorthface.com
Bonus: An antitheft cable spans the top handle so you can lock it to a
secure object.
Bummer: At 11 pounds, it’s a bit heavy for its size.
