Most of us mix and match our clothes. The pants, shirts, and jackets we choose for one outfit rarely come from the same brand, because we like variety. That’s why I felt a little weird testing several pieces from the new all at once. But after wearing combinations of theirclothesfor several days, I realized that the brands were onto something. With a ton of design workand some clever material choices, they’ve built a smart, simple collection that you can wear anytime, anywhereas cool weather approaches. Here are my favorites.
Howler Brothers ATX Work Pants ($99)

These are called work pants, but they’re . Yes, they’re thick and bombproof, and yes, they have reinforced knees. But thanks to a brushed-cotton build, the ATXs are much softer to the touch than your usual trousers, so there’s absolutely no break-in period. The cotton is also mixed with a little spandex for stretch, and when this fabric is combined with a gusseted crotch, you get a huge range of motion for biking, climbing, etc. Bonus points for tasteful colorways that are subtle enough foryour morningmeeting.
Howler Brothers Stockman Stretch Snapshirt ($89)

is a bit of an outlier: it’s heavier and warmer than a regular button-upflannelbut not as warm as a sweater or shacket. With that in mind, I’ve found that it’s the ideal layer for late-summer nights in the mountains and will be perfect for when the real chill of fall finally creeps in. Like the ATX pants, the Stockman uses spandex forstretch, so you can wear it while you’re active. But thanks to nice style touches like pearl buttons and western shoulder designs, it also looks good at work or dinner.
Howler Brothers Mansfield Shirt ($69)

The Mansfield’s floral printis loud and in your face, but it’s also . That means it’ll turn headsbut no one will call you obnoxious. Some workplaces might frown on the design, but the Mansfield fits right in at the ϳԹ offices. Within the Howler Brothers x Huckberry collection, the Mansfield is the most breathable layer of the bunch; it’s intended for those warmer days in August and September when the summer heat still lingers. My favorite part: a built-in microfiber section at the hem that you can use to clean your sunglasses.
Howler Brothers Lightning Quilted Jacket ($185)

Packed with high-loft 60-gram PrimaLoft filling, is what you’ll wear over the Stockman shirt when temperaturesdrop below the fifties. The insulation is also supremely packable: the jacket doesn’t take up much space in your bag if you need to stash it when the mercury rises. The Lightninghas lots of subtle but thoughtful touches that make it stand out, such as the quilted front pattern, a svelte cut that looks nice around town, snap closures on the front instead of a boringzipper, and an inner lining with the same pattern as the Mansfield shirt.
