Petzl Bindi Headlamp ($60)

Headlamps designed specifically for running tend to be ungainly. Not this one. A minimalist’s dream, the Bindi weighs only 1.2 ounces but provides 200 lumens to brighten your way on the trail. The battery is good for two hours at the maximum setting, and a color-coded energy gauge shows you how much juice you have left.

Saxx Pilot 2N1 Shorts ($65)

An underwear brand created what might be the world’s comfiest running shorts. The BallPark Pouch (imagine a mini hammock for your bits) and breathable, lightweight shell make the 2N1 the perfect preemptive strike against chafing.

Gore R7 Gore-Tex Shakedry Trail Jacket ($300)

Sparse but effective, the Shakedry Trail is essentially a waterproof membrane without any additional laminating fabric. That’s why it might be the lightest water- and windproof jacket on the market—a size large weighs just over six ounces. It ain’t cheap, but it’s worth the investment to anyone looking to book it on trails in bad weather.

The North Face Flight Light Hat ($38)

The Flight Light uses contoured mesh panels to provide sun protection without suffocating your noggin, especially on sweaty warm-weather runs. And the reflective Velcro strap in back will keep you visible to motorists on the road or mountain bikers and other runners on the trail.

These socks provide maximum comfort and zero slippage, thanks to extra material in the heel and thin mesh panels on top. Fashioned from Balega’s Drynamix polyester blend, these were tester favorites for extended outings on road and trail alike.

Patagonia Slope Runner 8 Pack ($169)

The Slope Runner 8 sits a little higher than many other hydration packs, offering unobstructed arm movement. The user-friendliness doesn’t stop there, though: it has a two-liter bladder and a large zippered pocket in back, while four front pouches are great for storing gels, soft flasks, or your phone.

Craft Nanoweight Singlet ($45)

Like the name implies, the polyester Nanoweight, from Swedish apparel brand Craft, is so light, you almost feel like you’re running shirtless. Mesh on the chest and back provide ventilation, enhancing the barely-there effect.
