On Wednesday, obstacle course race company Spartan Race announced that its two-day world championships competition will take place this fall on October 3 and 4 in Lake Tahoe, .
Spartan Race expects about 10,000 athletes from around the world to take part in the World Championship Beast, Sprint, Ultra Beast, and Charity Challenge competitions. More than $100,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to event winners. NBC Sports Group (which aired the Spartan’s 2014 World Championships) will televise the championship events on December 20.
“Continuing to challenge our athletes is part of the Spartan DNA,” Spartan Race CEO and founder Joseph De Sena said in the release. “Bringing our World Championship to one of the nation’s most spectacular and rugged backdrops will make for the most challenging event the obstacle racing community has ever experienced, and an unforgettable test of mental and physical strength.”
